SALVATION IN THE BIBLE

In the Bible, salvation is only promised to God’s children. John 1:12-13, John 3:5

The book of Acts describes what a person must do to become God’s child:

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Acts 2:38

Repentance

Repentance begins with the realisation that our current life isn’t acceptable to God and needs to be changed. It is more than just regret or crying - repentance is a decision to follow Jesus Christ.

Mark 1:15

Baptism

Jesus Christ got baptised in water by full immersion. He was baptised by John the Baptist, who was filled with the Holy Spirit. This is the only Biblical baptism - in water by full immersion, of your own will.

Through baptism, you publicly declare that you believe:

  • in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was crucified for our sins,

  • that He rose again to give you a new way of life

Baptism is your ‘signature’ on a new agreement with God.

Matt. 3:16

Receiving the Holy Spirit

Being born of the Spirit means receiving the Holy Spirit (with the Biblical evidence of speaking in tongues). This is God’s symbolic signature on the agreement which He made with us.

Jesus Christ promised that the Holy Spirit would be sent:

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16-17

Acts 1:8
Acts 2:4 and 2:33
Romans 8:9
